Danielle asked me out to dinner last night ... I think she was trying to be a good friend and tell me that I'm posting WAY too much on LJ.

I adore her sense of humor ... she's like a real life Victoria Beckham.  We walked up to Zocalo in Decatur, which is now closed.  She cooly says, "I was going to eat dinner there tonight," as if she were telling me any common fact like where she went to school or that she likes tuna sandwiches.

I managed to piss away the rest of my evening playing Scramble on Facebook and downloading trial versions of Traktor and MixMeister.  Of course, I still got to bed after 10:30.  cdk's phone battery died, so we were chatting on GChat for a bit.  Of course, we COULD have used iChat, but he's not into that idea for some reason.  Maybe he doesn't want me to see the dozen gorgeous naked men hanging out in his hotel room with him.  Hehe ...

**Edit

Rather than starting a new post, which would probably infuriate [info]dannykaye3, I figured I'd edit this one to say that it looks like our alternative scheduling will start back up in June!  Woohoo!

[ mood | ecstatic ]

So I was talking to my really good online buddy Karen today and on a whim, we decided that she should fly out here and that we should meet. So she got a plane ticket to come out here from california on the last weekend in June. There's a big Vimeo meet-up thing in nyc (vimeo is a video hosting community that I have all of my videos posted at and it's where I met Karen) on that Friday so we're going to go up and see what that's about, then on Saturday is my cousin's wedding in Virginia Beach, so we're going to drive down and do that (I have 2 wedding dates now, haha) and then Sunday we're probably going to do whatever and then go dancing at Barbary.

I'm just totally stoked because Karen's one of those rare folk that you meet online and just click with automatically. She's like my female counterpart- she's in grad school for cinematography and she does animation. She's also the kid in class that goes above and beyond normal assignments and causes other kids to hate her, which tends to be me, ha.

This is a video of her working on one of her finals (in fact, it's the one where she made the panels that I was talking about the other day).

The Misplaced Oligopoly of Curated Time from Karen Abad loves Dinosaurs. on Vimeo.

It's going to be so much fun.

GOOD NEWS! And not so good news... [20 May 2008|06:51pm]

danavee
As I said in a comment on my earlier post, the bird managed to escape from the wall space and made its way to the laundry room/basement, where, after it tried to kill me, I decided to ignore the situation until Curt got home.  There was some scratching, some peeping, some flapping, none of which was enticing me to open that door again.  When Curt got home he went downstairs to shoo the bird out the window, and (go ahead and get your tissues out if you're the crying over vermin type) came back upstairs with a trash can, announcing that it was an "ex-parrot" (two points to anyone who can identify the "ex-parrot" reference.  And if you can't identify the "ex-parrot" reference, we are no longer friends).  I guess the bird didn't want to wait until Curt got home and offed itself by flying into a wall.  Too bad, really, because I think he would have returned home a hero with a hell of a story.

So, at least my wall cavity will remain unstinky.  We managed to keep Max from hearing anything about the situation, because, ugh... you explain it to a five year-old.

My friend Karen was selling panels she made for one of her finals to help her pay for school. I bought one because she's awesome and the panels are awesome.

Here's mine:

The project was to take these abstract vocabulary words and create an image based on each.
This word was 'alterity', which means 'the state of being other or different. otherness.'

She's sent it out and it should be delivered sometime this week. I'm STOKED.

Some stuff [20 May 2008|05:05pm]

[ music | Rio en Medio - Everyone is Someone's ]

Insurance is purchased. I'm a little surprised because I'm only paying $30 more every 6 months than I was paying when I was sharing insurance. Everyone kept telling me that living in the city would mean astronomical insurance prices, which is why I never bothered to get my own.
So now I'm on Progressive, which is what my dad suggested and my coverage is pretty decent.

In other news, I'm a little sick today. Like sore throat/achy, etc. I attribute it to going out every night of my life.

Thursday - Went to Bob and Barbara's to see Micah's drag show. I left as soon as he was done because that place grosses me out sometimes.

Friday - Making Time to see Cut Copy. I somehow managed to spend $140 that night and I have no idea how because I wasn't even drunk when I left.

Saturday - Travis's birthday. Definitely drunk that night. I had almost a whole bottle of Tanqueray and most of a bottle of Rosa Regale. It was a fun time though.

Sunday - Travis and I got up around 11 and we were both a wreck. We ate at Vesuvio and I had my puking for Menudo situation shortly after. That night was dancing at Barbary. Only had 3 drinks here. God, I love this place. Between the beers I buy for myself and the ones that get bought for me, I've never spent more than $20 on myself in a whole night. Funny story about this night: There were these two really obnoxious girls there, who were just causing chaos wherever they went. They kept getting on the dance floor and swinging their purses around, causing tampons to fly all over the place. Then they were the kind of asshole girls who would be done dancing, so instead of walking off the dance floor like normal people, they'd shoulder check their way through everyone to get to the side. They were assholes. Anyway, Travis and I were sitting at the bar and he noticed one of the girls, a 4' nothing chubby girl with a shock of platinum blonde spikes and neon blue bangs, hardcore making out with some ugly dude at the bar. Upon closer inspection, we noticed that her dress was pulled up to her belly button and her underwear was around her ankles, haha. So she had her back against the bar and the ugly dude was in front of her with his back to the dance floor. Travis dared Liz, the gorgeous bartender, to go over and rub the guy's back, pretending to be the blonde chick. So Liz went over and was caressing the guy's back for a good five minutes with me and Travis about 2 feet away laughing our asses off. The guy had no idea. So Liz started maniacally scratching his back and he finally turned around and Liz just shrugged. Oh man, I thought I was going to piss my pants.

Monday - Had to get up really early for a hair appointment. I went to The Alley in South Philly because everyone on yelp.com had all this tremendous stuff to say about the stylist there. My appt was at 11 so I got there at 1045 and the 'closed' sign was in the window and the place was locked, hah. So I sat in my car and hung out then at 1103, the guy called to ask where I was. I went in and it was just him and me because he's the only stylist there and cuts hair by appointment only. Just like everyone on yelp said, he was such a chill and laid back guy who was very easy to talk to. He cut my hair for over an hour, he was so meticulous. I've never gotten that long of a haircut before. I wasn't sure how I wanted to get my hair done - I told him that I was thinking about growing it a little bit, but also not sure if I wanted to keep it short. He managed to give me a haircut that was both long and short and I love it (i'll put up pictures soon). He texturized the hell out of my hair. It's great. Later on, Travis, Deshawn, and Siobhan were watching a documentary about Voguing (haha) so I joined them and then went to the Cantina with a bunch of lesbians. One of them, Crystal, was cracking my shit up, she was funny as hell. I found out she works at the Whole Foods that I shop at, so I'll have to go see her. Only had 2 drinks here before everyone went to Bob and Barbara's for a drunk spelling bee. I dropped them off there and just went home because I was completely burned out. Went home and watched Neverland, which reminds me of [info]closer1000 because I remember him talking about it a long time ago. It was somehow both better and worse than I thought it would be. Went to bed around 1 and got up around noon.

Tuesday - I've done almost nothing today. Bought new insurance and watched Raiders of the Lost Ark with the girls and a couple of the guys. Tonite is Ross's birthday, so I'm going to his place for a little bit later on. They want to go out afterwards, but I'm not up for that at all. I slept for about 45 minutes during the movie earlier and I just want to go back to bed. So I'll probably just hang out at Ross's and then head home when they go out.

Tomorrow, I picked up a shift from Kerri because she booked another commercial and then we're going to see Kingdom of the Crystal Skull at midnight.

Maybe I can relax on thursday?

[ mood | confused ]

Ok, so my car insurance policy ends on June 10th and I've been sharing insurance with Cody all along. I figured it's high time to get my own policy, but I think that also means that I have to get a new license and new registration as well seeing as I've been living in Philly for over a year. Getting anything vehicle related is always so fricken complicated. Does anyone know which order I should get everything in? Like, can I get registration without a license? Can I get a license without registration? I found the insurance I want, so they don't seem to care about license or registration.

Max started puking on Thursday (well, Friday morning at 2:00AM), and has been making "poop soup" in the potty until today, when he enthusiastically informed Curt that "I didn't make poop soup!" so back to school he went.  I thought the rest of us would get away without incident, but, alas, Jenny puked last night, and Curt and I are feeling unsettled at best.  Jenny also made poop soup in her diaper, which caused me to puke this morning.

Also, birds have been living in our attic, and we've been peacefully co-existing, however, now one of those bastards has fallen into a wall, and I'm not sure what to do.  It's scratching and scrabbling and screeching, and is going to drive me batshit crazy.  I'm trying to figure out just how many stops to pull out to rectify the problem.  I mean, technically, it's a pest, and it's not like I would go out of my way to save a rat or something else in my wall.  On the other hand, birds are living creatures, and really, shouldn't I try to do SOMETHING for the poor thing?

You're not going to believe the sound that just came out of Jenny's ass.  Gotta run.

They released this song with another person singing it.  That version is good, but not quite as powerful as Alanis.

Lessons learned. [20 May 2008|08:21am]

  • If you are in a hurry at McDonald's, order something standard.  I got my Egg McMuffin this morning ahead of the half a dozen people who ordered before me as well as at least the same number of cars that were in the drive-through .  Also, it is probably the healthiest option for breakfast.
  • I spent a lot of time on my own and with our systems architect coming up with a plan for how to make generic items that can be scheduled in any way.  But I've stopped caring so the design I sent to my project manager is as rigid as possible and can never be expanded to include anything else.  If all goes well, I won't be here next year when the users say, "We also need this software to do _______."
I guess that's all of the personal growth I've done so far this week.  My allergies seem awful ... so awful that I've hopped back on the Sudafed wagon (if you recall, it was giving me horrible sinus headaches).  I chatted with cdk last night and he thinks he's getting sick.  Hmpf.  Maybe it's not just allergies.

I was just looking at the calendar.  It turns out, my PM is on vacation for 3 1/2 weeks starting at the end of September.  I am on vacation for a week and a half starting the day he gets back.  Wow, that's some good timing!  I wonder if I should mention that to anyone?  Ya know, maybe we should get X done before he goes on vacation?  Nah ... remember?  I don't care.

Ugh ... [19 May 2008|12:51pm]

I don't know what I was thinking, but I went to McDonald's for lunch.  Now I feel sick.  I might go for a run before aerial dance class to make up for this lapse in judgment.

cdk consumed a bit of my morning with text messages asking me for suggestions for where to eat lunch in Philly and which bridge to take into Jersey.  OK, I'm really feeling nostalgic for Philadelphia, now.  As I told <lj user="glarehead">, I saw Baby Mama yesterday, and then read a post of his regarding his wanderings this weekend.

I think it's a sign!  I'm not happy with work, my allergies are driving me crazy, I hate Atlanta summers (too hot & humid), and our apartment lease is month-to-month.  I should just drop everything and move back to Philly.  cdk might miss me, but I'm sure he'd get over it.

I could also fool myself into thinking that I would see more of my family if I moved back.  I'm guessing I would be guilted into visiting my mother more frequently.  And of course she would say, "You only visit me because you feel guilty," followed by, "Why don't you stay longer when you visit?"

I've learned that it is better to not visit her at all than to visit her for 2 days, which is unfortunate because I really max out after about 24 hours.  There isn't much to do in rural Pennsylvania.  Especially with a 64 year old woman who doesn't want to leave the house.

Lol ok so... Maybe its just me and im totally crazy but :

Go to main page 4( the bowling one ) and hover over the characters button so that the good ole 'the system is down' techno song starts playing .. turn up your volume a bit and listen.    Is it just me or does the one layer of the song (the do do do doo do do part..lol)  if you listen closely, sounds like he is 'singing' "put down the cheeze doodle" .    I hope someone other than me can hear what im talking about so i don't seem like a total nut case. I'm sure thats not what he is really saying but ... who knows knowing these guys. lol.

At this time, one year ago, I was leaving Stereo in Montreal and wondering what the hell had just happened to me.  It was the most intense 4 hours of dancing in my life.  I didn't hear a single song I knew ... there were times when I wasn't even sure the DJ was playing music.  He had me under his spell and I danced my ass off.

If we had gone this year, we would have gone to Junior at Parking on Saturday and Danny Howells at Stereo on Sunday, skipping all the other crap.  But cdk has to do a presentation in Atlantic City tomorrow morning, so we had to skip it.  That's fine, though.  We had a great weekend here in Atlanta.

Friday night we went bowling and laughed about, then demonstrated the affect of drinking on one's ability to bowl.  At first it makes you bowl better, but then it quickly makes you bowl worse.  It always makes it more fun, though.  I bowled 112, 97, 64.

After that we swung by C&C's before heading to J&T's and then Swinging Richards.  We were over that pretty quickly, so then C&C came back to our place where cdk insisted on showing off our mixing board and playing records loudly at 2 a.m.

Surprisingly, we got a note from our landlord, whose bedroom is right below ours, the next day.  I've kinda decided these things aren't really worth fighting him on.

Saturday morning I took my car in for an oil change.  6 hours and $600 later, I had a tune-up and a repaired transmission mount.  My next service is 90,000 miles so that will run another $400.  I think Mazda's service department must have found out that my loan is paid off, so now they'll get their $3000 a year another way until I give in and buy a new car.

In the evening we went to a birthday party over at the Plaza for a guy we met while we were in New York.  His partner was thrilled that we showed up.  The birthday boy didn't remember us.  That's OK, I didn't remember him, either.  They have an amazing south facing view.

We swung by WETbar after that for about an hour.  Paul Goodyear was one of the DJs on the cruise that we liked ... I liked everything we heard at WETbar, but the crowd was really strange.  It was like a bus picked up all the alternative kids at the mall and then swung by a prom.  Piercings and mohawks over there, formal wear over here ... what the?

Sunday we wandered around Midtown, having brunch at Einstein's and seeing Baby Mama at Midtown Arts.

And today I'm at work ... which makes me sad, but my PM called out "sick" so it should be a good day.  =)
